* * * Great Effort From The WHOLE T.E.A.M * * *
Wratting played some pretty good football today, much better team play, pass and move than recent performances with some pretty cracking goals too to round off a convincing 8-2 win against a spirited well drilled Falcons outfit.
Ben Weedon had a couple of break though attempts early on only to see the efforts not cause enough trouble to the visitors keeper, Ben was awarded a couple of free kicks too as his pace really threatened the Falcons rear guard.
Earle Lambert then joined in and blended well, Sam Ager breaking out of defence, smoothing a pass into the feet of Weedon who sprang Lambert in on goal, finishing with a neat side foot strike to put Wratting ahead 1-0.
Then the goal of the game as Lambert evaded several attempts from the Fulbourn defence as he tricked his way round 3 players, rolling his foot over the ball and side stepping to then knock the ball past the out-coming keeper for 2-0.
Soon it was 3-0, this time Ben Weedon planting home after some great play from Harry Ripp and Harry Wilson, Liam Mitchell and Earle Lambert combing on the support work to set up Weedon who made a hard job look easy!
Fulbourn grabbed a goal back for 3-1 with a well struck 25 yard effort from Tom Martin, giving no chance to Aaron Millar who up until this point had made a couple of vital interceptions at the feet of the visiting strike force.
But just as the half concluded it was Earle Lambert who grabbed his hat-trick with another piece of artistry dribbling his way around the box and sending tha ball into the back of the net for 4-1.
Half Time came and went and Wratting continued as they had in the first half, great performances from Harvey Scotton, Harry Wilson, Lloyd Makhanya at the heart of the defence. The midfield width was supplied superbly by Jack Weller, Michael Torode and Lewis Massie, very controlled in every move made whether timely interception, quick thinking or precision passing!
Ryan Cooper mixed it well, feeding the strikers with clever play, back to his outstanding self, unselfish linking up play and tricking his way wide of the right. Connor Snow and Jack Ferguson are a pair who haven’t seen much pitch time recently but got stuck right in today shutting down the opposition high up the pitch, a plan that worked really well today to stem Fulbourn from playing their usual swift passing game.
The next goal was a great header from Harry Wilson, capping a fine performance he met Earle Lambert’s corner with force heading high into the net for 5-1. Fulbourn did pull another goal back for 5-2 but within minutes Liam Mitchell had put the margin back to four with a well-struck goal after great play from Jack Weller, Harvey Scotton and Jack Ferguson for 6-2.
The final goals were real team spirit efforts, the first a great run from Ben Weedon after being set free by Harry Wilson, Weedon ran through the defence wide right and slotted the ball past the keeper for 7-2, Earle Lambert following the strike but letting the ball go over the goal line to allow Ben to secure a brace when others possibly might have hit the ball in for their own tally, nice one Earle!
The final goal of the game was again involving the impressive Jack Weller, being played through and chipping the keeper into the path of Jack Ferguson who placed the ball into the back of the net to secure his forst for the club, Weller could have shot but chose to play in his team mate, again great team play!
Man of the Match: Jack Weller for his commitment to the team today, some fine passing and movement, instrumental in a few goal with excellent vision and touch! Well done mate… really deserved it today!
