Wratting continued their pre-season with a trip to the highly acclaimed Cambridge City Colts at Pembroke College Sports Ground, on probably the biggest pitch either side will play on this season.
Wratting started brightly and scored within 2 mins good ball retention in midfield from Biggs, Sendall & Whittley led to the ball getting to Pinker just outside the box who turned and despatched the ball into the bottom corner. City playing some slick football soon equalised through a good move down the left and a neat finish. The game settled..with enterprising football from both teams. On 20 mins Pinker, fed by O'Neill, had a tussle with the centre half and was awarded a free kick some 25/30 yards out toward the left touchline but picked himself up and sent the ball like a bullet into the top right hand corner. Undeterred City pressed on with fast flowing play and scored 2 goals in 5 mins both which saw the Wratting back line slower to re-act than their counterparts. H-T 3-2

2nd half started the same as the 1st ..Wilson, Hayes & Percy combining to get the ball to Pinkers feet who spun and despatched a rocket from 22 yards into the roof of the net for his hat-trick. Wratting looked to control the game but were undone by a great counter-attack down Citys left side which resulted in a ball across the box where 2 or 3 players were queuing up to score.
Wratting then stepped up the gas ..the ball was played to Pinker then laid back to Hayes who hit it first time from 35 yards and watched the ball sail over the keepers head into the net. Wilson & Child then combined to find Percy through the inside left channel who shot 'sidewards' deceiving the keeper and Pinker was on hand to tap in. 5 mins later Percy turned his marker in the box and drilled a left foot shot across the keeper and into the top corner. City were not done and scored a 5th to reduce the deficit and set up a tense final 5 mins. But some solid defending by Willett,Child, Wilson and Warnock enabled Wratting to see the game out to win 6-5 in a very good & exciting match.
Well done to all the boys and 4 goal man of the match Tom Pinker.

A good follow-up from last weeks tournament win.

Wrattings next game is a home to Cherry Hinton on 8th Aug with a 10am ko.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
