West Wratting went about todays game with reasonable professionalism, self belief and commended conduct, they came away with another valuable 3 points as they give themselves a huge opportunity to take the D League Title Honours with the last game of the season next Tuesday evening.
The game set off at a terrific pace for the visitors with Cooper immediately finding himself through one on one with the keeper only to see his strike crash of the right hand post! Lambert rattled the post, the home keeper saved half a dozen and it was just moments later a shot from Cooper was parried only for the striker to follow up and put Wratting 1-0 up.
United were strong and full of spirit putting Wratting under pressure with some solid defensive play, closing the Reds down and forcing the players to push the ball around the pitch at pace. Millar had to be focussed to help his back line and to keep a clean sheet, which now including this result are sitting at 12 out of 19 games.
Bush battled well before being replaced by Torode who delivered the ball in for Foster to strike home, the Reds going in 2-0 up at the break.
The Reds continued the pressure and Lambert was put through by Foster and planted the ball past the out-coming keeper to give the visitors a comfortable lead with just a minute played of the second half. Wratting pressed with Bush and Elliott on the right with the magical Sheath/ Torode partnership pressing down the left. Lambert and Bailey linked up well before the ball broke out from the home defence, Massie controlled and launched an unstoppable half -volley over the out-stretched keeper for the goal of the game so far!
Bush was relentless along with the power of Bailey robbing the midfield of possession many times, Bush forced a shot in on goal, the keeper saved only for Gedny to follow up and place the ball home with his left foot for 5-0. As the last few minutes were winding down Wratting kept up the pressure and when Ager played a superb 30 yard pass over the back of the defence it was Ankers who collected and passed back into the path of Gedny who looked up and stung the ball into the top right hand corner for the goal of the game, just!
Tuesday cannot come quickly enough as the West Wratting Reds face Needingworth knowing that a Reds victory will see them step ahead of the current league leaders into top place in what has been a long interesting season, but its not over ........... until ....... its over!
Man of the Match: Lewis Massie
