Little Paxton 5 A Side Tournament 2
West Wratting Youth 1

 (AET; 1 - 1 at full-time)

George Sheath (1)
Harvey Scotton (1)
Mark Coulson (2)

West Wratting Youth entered their final tournament of the season over at Little Paxton with a strong A League opposition in Arbury Aces, Fulbourn Falcons & Priory Parkside, plus fellow B League campaigners Somersham Town.

The opener wa against the Arbury Reds, a game dominated by Wratting in their change kit of Royal Blue with the 1-0 victory sealed by a Mark Coulson Penalty.

Somersham were next up and Wratting really got into their stride with Ryan Coper twisting and turning his way forward, then George Sheath entered the field of play then rifling in a left foot stunner, duly followed by Harvey Scotton smashing the ball home after being sent clear by Ben Murray for 2-0.

The 3rd game of the day was against Fulbourn Falcons Yellows, a tight game that ended at 0-0 after both sides went close, stand in keeper Sam Ager keeping his 3rd clean sheet of the day.

With 3 games to go and 7 points the Wratting side sat 2nd in the table but faced the Arbury Whites, again the game was fairly even until a penalty award went to the Whites with Arbury slotting home to win 1-0.

The final games against Priory Parkside and Fulbourn Light Blue n White were solid displays with 0-0 achieving 9 points and a 4th place which meant a re-match with Arbury Aces 'Whites' in the Semis.

So a Semi Final for Wratting against probably the 'in form' Players from last season A League today winning 5 and drawing only 1 to achieve 16 points topping the table.

An explosive start for Wratting saw Mark Coulson fire into the top right hand corner with a superb dipping drive from about 18 yards. Ben Murray and Harvey Scotton were terrric mantaining their discipline really well. This solid Wratting display forced Arbury's finest into shape and they began to craft their way forward, a stunning effort from a free kick was tipped over by Sam Ager.

Then a penalty was awarded for infringement to the area, very harsh but the Wratting players took their medicine and the Penalty was well converted. Both sides then having chances to win with Wratting dominating the closing stages.

So to extra time and possibility of Golden Goal, the match set of at the same pace in the raging heat, indeed it was only a minute old when Arbury struck their Goalden Goal to seal victory, the Arbury Whites went on to win by the same Goalden Goal 2-1 score against the Fulbourn in the final.

The West Wratting squad can hold their heads up high after a great close season of six tournaments Winning 1 and reaching 4 Semi Finals.

Would moving kids' football to a summer game help improve the development of young footballers?
Yes - better pitches mean a better chance to develop technique/skills
No - wouldn't make any real difference to development
Maybe - but I'd be worried about more injuries on firm pitches
